5 Dispatch Center Design Trends We’re Seeing in 2026
A regional Emergency Communications Center providing 24/7 public safety dispatch, emergency 911, and non-emergency call handling services for nearly all municipalities throughout Hamilton County, including the greater Chattanooga, Tennessee area.
Hamilton County 9-1-1 serves as a large regional emergency communications center responsible for public safety dispatch, emergency 911, and non-emergency call handling for nearly every municipality within Hamilton County, Tennessee, including the greater Chattanooga area.
This project marked the organization’s third collaboration with Russ Bassett, following previous successful remodels of both its primary communications center and backup facility. With years of experience working together, Hamilton County 9-1-1 turned once again to Russ Bassett to support a major modernization initiative focused on improving functionality, expanding operational capacity, and creating a more contemporary dispatch environment.
The project included a complete reconfiguration of the existing floor plan to accommodate a new supervisory bridge, integrated video display walls, and two additional operator positions—all while maintaining uninterrupted operations in a demanding mission-critical environment.
Hamilton County 9-1-1 sought to modernize the overall look and feel of the communications center while improving workflow and maximizing available space. Key project objectives included:
The team also wanted a partner capable of coordinating with trusted vendors to support the broader architectural and acoustic enhancements planned for the space.
Russ Bassett worked closely with Hamilton County 9-1-1 to quickly develop a highly functional and efficient floor plan tailored to the agency’s operational needs. The redesigned space incorporated ergonomic dispatch consoles, improved supervisor visibility, expanded operator capacity, and seamless integration with the center’s new technology and display systems.
Drawing from previous project partnerships, Russ Bassett also helped connect the agency with vendors specializing in modern acoustical paneling solutions, contributing to the center’s updated appearance and enhanced work environment.
The final design delivered a clean, highly modern communications center optimized for both day-to-day operations and large-scale incident response.
Hamilton County 9-1-1 has partnered with Russ Bassett for more than 15 years across multiple projects and facility upgrades.
According to Executive Director Jeff Carney, Russ Bassett’s proven product durability, ergonomic design expertise, and deep understanding of emergency communications center environments made the decision straightforward.
Beyond the products themselves, the agency valued Russ Bassett’s responsiveness, project management experience, and long-standing working relationships developed over years of collaboration.
The completed remodel delivered:
The project was also completed on time despite the complexity and coordination required across multiple vendors and construction elements.
“Everyone thinks the newly remodeled center is beautiful and space-aged. Incredibly modern look and feel.”
“Staff are happy with the new consoles. Still getting used to the new layout but we have had several large events and everything is working great.”
“Russ Bassett was a true partner in helping us transform our workspace.”
