Real-Time Crime Center Console Design: Supporting RTCC Operations
Small center with 2-4 dispatchers working 24-7
We were operating with 20-year-old dispatch consoles that were failing, and we were resorting to sourcing replacement parts from secondary marketplaces. Our facility, built in 1892, presented additional challenges—plaster walls, limited space, and the need to work within a historic structure.
Our goal was to transition from a 3-position to a 4-position dispatch center, modernize our technology, and do so while preserving the historic integrity of our building.
The Design Team was able to address our largest issue, floor space limitations. They were able to meet with us, rearrange the layout to give us an excellent view of the space, and demonstrate the capabilities of the Flex workstations. We implemented Russ Bassett Flex Consoles for four dispatch positions and a dedicated supervisor workstation.
Product quality, warranty, and the ability to customize the solution to our environment were key factors in our decision.
One of our biggest challenges was limited floor space. The Russ Bassett design team worked closely with us, adjusting layouts in real time to help us visualize the space and ensure we maximized every inch. Their ability to demonstrate how the Flex consoles would function in our environment gave us confidence in the final design.
"The Russ Bassett team were so easy to work with, and you felt like they genuinely cared about your operation. "
-John Vannoy, Public Safety Manager
Our dispatchers were excited to move into the new space. The clean, modern worksurfaces and six-monitor configurations are easy to view and use. The ability to stand while dispatching is a major improvement and supports long-term comfort and health.
All computer equipment is now stored out of sight, with convenient access from the desktop. Cable management has been a significant upgrade—everything is organized, hidden, and separated into channels, making troubleshooting much easier for our IT team.
