Transforming Public Safety Workspaces: The Power of Dispatch Consoles

Citrus Heights Police Department is a mid-size policing organization with an in-house Emergency Communications Center
Our Emergency Communications Center was originally built in 2006 when the organization was founded. While some technology had been updated over the years, the overall environment—including the dispatch furniture—remained unchanged. As the original furniture began to deteriorate, it became clear that a modernized center was needed to improve workflow and accommodate additional operator positions.
Our goal was to create an ergonomic, highly functional environment that supports our team in performing their mission-critical work with focus and efficiency.
Russ Bassett proved to be the ideal partner in transforming our space. From the start, their team took the time to truly understand our goals, helping us design a beautiful and functional environment tailored to our team’s needs—all while staying within our target objectives.
Their outstanding customer service made a significant impact. Russ Bassett was responsive, supportive throughout the decision-making process, and incredibly patient as we navigated project timelines.
As the project evolved, so did our requirements—specifically changes to monitor types and other technology. At every stage, the Russ Bassett team remained meticulous and adaptable, promptly updating measurements and drawings to reflect the new specifications. Their attention to detail and flexibility ensured the final solution met every expectation.
The transformation from our original center to the newly completed space has been nothing short of phenomenal. What was once an outdated and worn environment is now a modern, ergonomic, and visually striking workspace—one that instills pride throughout the organization.
The impact of this project extended well beyond the communications team. Because nearly every city department was involved in some capacity, staff members who had never set foot in the police department have toured the new Emergency Communications Center and now share a strong sense of ownership in its success. Rather than feeling disconnected, they now feel proud to be part of something meaningful and lasting.
For the communications team, the results are even more personal. The environment is not only comfortable and streamlined, but also fully tailored to individual operator needs. With customizable environmental controls, computer systems, and monitors all within reach, team members now work in a space that supports both efficiency and well-being—day in and day out.
